Chief of Staff at the Office of the Vice President, Alex Segbefia, taunted protesters of the opposition New Patriotic Party who visited the Jubilee House on September 23, 2025 to present their petition to the president.
Alex Segbefia, who received the petition on behalf of the presidency in front of Jubilee House, delivered a jab to the opposition members, saying, "You are able to come here to deliver a petition?"

According to him, the same premises became a no-go area recently when the government of the NPP, led by Nana Akufo-Addo, was in power, as protesters were prevented from reaching the same place to deliver their petitions.
In September 2023, heavy security personnel drawn from the Ghana Police Service blocked protesters from accessing the front of Jubilee House when Nana Addo was the president.
This development occurred on the second day of the three-day protest organised by "Democracy Hub," a group of young activists who intended to pile pressure on the government from Thursday, September 21, to Saturday, September 23, 2023, to demand good governance.
During the period, heavily armed police personnel were spread across the 37 Military Hospital area in Accra to block total access to the main road leading to the Jubilee House throughout the "Occupy Julorbi House" protest.
The restriction by the security personnel forced the protesters to also sit in the middle of the road, blocking the flow of vehicular traffic.
However, when the pro-NPP group was allowed access to the same place on September 23, 2025, Alex Segbefia said, he was happy to stand in front of the seat of government to receive their petition.
"In recent times, this would not have been possible, but today, you are able to come here and deliver the petition…I thank the president for allowing us to receive this at the president's office, which marks a new step in our democratic dispensation," he stated.
He added that "Our president has always been a democratic, fair leader, following the principles and processes of democracy, and that is why we say, Ghana has been seen today as a bastion of democracy in all of Africa."
He gave an assurance that the petition would be given the necessary attention it required.
