Yet Another Contract Killing

.... Retired Public Servant gunned down
Tema, July 17, GNA- A gang of five men early Tuesday morning stormed the residence of a 61 year old Retired Public Servant, Mr Kwateh Quartey at Tema Community Nine and gunned him down in cold blood. His body has been taken by the Tema Police and deposited at the Police Hospital in Accra.

A young girl who appeared traumatized told the GNA at the scene that at about 0550 hours, the five assailants pulled up in a taxi with registration number ER 3531 X and knocked at the main gate of their house.

When she opened the gate one of them who gave his name as Yaw said they were looking for Mr Quartey who was then about to have his bath. With a towel around his waist, Mr Quartey came out to open the gate only for the assailants to shoot him in the chest killing him instantly. The assailants who did not disguise themselves sped off and another taxi driver who appeared at the scene and attempted to pursue them was fired on and they managed to escape.

An eyewitness said the driver got the registration number of the taxi used for the operation, which was later abandoned at a spot on the Tema beach road.

It is alleged that today's incident is the second attempt on the life of the deceased and it is believed to be over land litigation. The Tema Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) John Kudalor who was at the scene of the incident with his men confirmed the murder and assured that the police would work hard to trace the perpetrators.

When the GNA got to the scene there were bloodstains at the entrance of the main gate and the family members were wailing uncontrollably. Today's incident is the second in 18 days in the industrial city after the gruesome murder of Mr Rokko Frimpong, Deputy Manager in charge of Operations of the Ghana Commercial Bank at his Sakomono Estates under similar circumstances.

Mr Rokko's assailants has since not been tracked down even though the Bank and the Police had offered monetary rewards for any information leading to their arrest.
