A 44-year-old Rastafarian contesting the upcoming district assembly elections has revealed he smokes Indian hemp, an illicit drug popularly referred to as ‘wee’.

Kwaku Boakye, a.k.a. Motion was mocked on social media platforms for his physical appearance after his posters emerged as assemblyman contestant for Santasi Electoral Area in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

He told TV3’s William Evans-Nkum Thursday that he is unfazed by the contemptuous comments people have been making about him and remains focused in winning the election drive development to his area.

The man who is proud of his ghetto roots winning the election will give him the opportunity to change the narrative of people living in the ghettos.

Asked how he feels when people refer to him as a ‘wee smoker’, the man who looked well-composed responded: “It’s true, people refer to me as a wee smoker but I won’t hide it. I know how to smoke wee; I smoke wee”.

He, however, claimed appearance is in sharp contrast with his ability to deliver to the people of Santasi.

He explained he and others live in the ghetto because they believe successive governments have failed to address their needs.

For him, getting into the corridors of power offers an opportunity to influence policies to benefit the grassroots.

“People take me serious,” he said in Twi, adding “when I announced some two years ago that I was going to contest, people were happy and that encouraged me”.

His campaign manager, Ernest Boakye, said their special campaign strategy resonates with majority of the people.

Boakye is up against Felix Nana Yeboah, a Kumawood actor, in the elections.
