YIKROSEC–STI clash: Seven suspects named

Seven male students of Somanya Technical Institute have been identified as suspected ringleaders of a violent confrontation at the Yilo Krobo Senior High School (YIKROSEC) campus following an alleged act of retaliation over a disagreement involving students of the two institutions.

The incident occurred on Saturday, October 31, 2026, after an initial confrontation between a student of YIKROSEC and a colleague from Somanya Technical Institute (STI) in town reportedly escalated into a campus disturbance.

Information gathered indicates that the disagreement began when a YIKROSEC student encountered an STI student in town, leading to a confrontation between the two.

The STI student is alleged to have subsequently mobilised some of his colleagues and other young men from the town, who proceeded to the YIKROSEC campus in what is believed to have been a retaliatory attack.

The situation prompted a swift response from security personnel. However, the group reportedly fled upon spotting the Police, preventing the confrontation from escalating further.

In a development following the incident, seven male students have been identified as suspected ringleaders of the alleged attack.

The Headmaster of Somanya Technical Institute has reportedly agreed to present the identified students to the Police on Monday, November 2, 2026, following an official invitation from the security authorities.

Meanwhile, the situation is said to be under control, with security personnel maintaining a presence in the area to prevent further disturbances and safeguard students and residents.

No casualties had been recorded as of the latest update.

Students, residents and the general public have been urged to remain calm and refrain from actions that could worsen tensions between the two institutions, as the appropriate authorities work to address the matter.

Further updates are expected as Police investigations and other interventions progress.
