World Vision donates books to schools

Accra, Oct. 16, GNA - World Vision, an international non-governmental organization (NGO) has donated assorted books worth 352,000 dollars to 13 institutions in the country.

The beneficiary institutions are Central University College, University of Cape Coast, Valley View University, Abuakwa State College, Benkum Secondary School, Nifa Secondary School and Achimota Secondary School, The rest are: Edinaman Secondary School, Ofori Panyin Secondary School, Gift Praise Secondary School and Youth for Christ and Cape Coast Central Library.

Representatives of the institutions converged at Dodowa to receive the books. Presenting the items, Mr Theodore P. K. Afari, Director of World Vision, Ghana Southern Sector, said the organization primarily provided relief assistance to all people with special focus on children.

He said the organisation's priority areas were Relief and Rehabilitation, Water and Sanitation, Health and Nutrition, Education, Child/Youth Family Sponsorship, Food Security, Gender Development Activities and Christian Witness and Leadership.

Mr Afari said another important component of World Vision Ghana is a project code-named: "Gift-in-Kind" which involved the supply of gifts such as pharmaceuticals and medical equipment, clothing, footwear, flower seeds and recreational facilities to institutions. He said the International Book Bank in the United States through the Ghana Book Trust sent the books.

Mr Afari, therefore, urged the beneficiary schools to use the books to improve on the education of the youth.

Mr Tony Baafo, Board Chairman of Edinaman Secondary School, expressed appreciation on behalf of the beneficiaries and said the books would be used to sharpen the academic work of their students" He said: "We believe with the right educational setting quality future leaders will be produced."
