World Vision International Assist Schools

World Vision International (WVI), an international Non-Government Organisation (NGO) at the weekend presented eight new computers valued at about 60 million cedis, and a quantity of library books to four schools in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region.

The Bongo and Gowrie senior secondary schools each received two computers and a share of the library books, while the other four computers went to the newly established resource centre for the benefit of the entire Bongo community, especially students of the nearby Anafobisi Junior Secondary School.

The bulk of the library books covering such subjects as biology, legal studies, English language, mathematics and science, went to the Salibga junior secondary school.

Masking the presentation, Mrs. Benedicata Pealore, Bongo area development programme manager of WVI, recounted some of her organisation's interventions particularly towards the development of education during the past seven years it has been operating in the district.

These include the construction of a students hostel at Gowrie Senior Secondary School, the provision of 1000 school uniforms for primary school children, the construction of five classroom blocks for five communities and the recruitment of volunteer teachers for 26 deprived primary schools, all in the Bongo District.

Mrs. Pealore said the interest and seriousness the students would demonstrate in the use of the computers would encourage her organisation to continue to provide more of such assistance to schools in the district.

The District Director of education, Mr. Francis Doagbelige, received the items and presented them to the headmasters of the beneficiary schools. He said the fact that WVI had become a household word in the Bongo District was a manifestation of its achievements as a worthy development partner. The Director urged students to reciprocate WVI's kind gesture by taking good care of the items and utilize them efficiently to enrich their knowledge.

The Reverend Simon Asige and Mr. Didacus Afegra, Headmasters of the Bongo and Gowrie Senior secondary schools respectively, thanked WVI for its generous assistance over the years, and pledged that the items donated would be put to good use.
