World Heart Day marked with a Health Walk

Dr Lawrence Agyeman Sereboe, Director of the National Cardiothoracic Centre has called on Ghanaians to control their eating habit to enable them to stay healthy at all times.

He said eating more fruits and vegetables is very good for the heart which controls the whole body.

Dr Sereboe made the call at the end of this year’s Health Walk in Accra to commemorate World Heart Day.

The Day, which was instituted by the World Health Organisation in 2000, is celebrated on September 29, every year.

This year’s celebration which is on the theme: “Healthy Heart, Clean Environment,” started from the Children’s Park through the Liberation Circle to the Ako Adjei Interchange to the Police Hospital and ended at the starting point.

Dr Sereboe urged Ghanaians to take active interest in exercises everyday which he said would increase productivity.

The Director of the Cardiothoracic Centre tasked Ghanaians to desist from excessive smoking which he said weakens the heart.

He encouraged workers to set up gymnasium at their workplaces so that they could take frequent exercises.

Miss Abigail Baciara Bentie, Ghana’s Most Beautiful who joined the walkers, also advised Ghanaians to desist from eating fatty food.
