Workers discontent with 10% pay rise

Workers deserve good enough end-of-service benefits Workers deserve good enough end-of-service benefits

Workers in Ghana deserve more than 10 per cent annual salary increase since they are no less human than Members of Parliament (MPs), District Chief Executives (DCEs) among others, the Eastern Regional Chairman of the Trades Union Congress-Ghana (TUC), Augustine Michael Owusu, has said.

According to him, the Animal Farm situation where politicians get mouthwatering end-of-service benefits to the detriment of hardworking Ghanaians, must end.

He said end-of-service benefits were the birthright of workers but was taken away from them in the 1990s.

Mr Owusu expressed worry that despite demonstrating dedication to all sitting governments, workers are still not treated fairly, thus making them live from hand-to-mouth as well as surviving on loans and killer overdrafts.

The Regional Chairman commended the government for introducing the free Senior High School (SHS) programme to ease the financial burden on workers, and also urged the current administration to support the private sector to employ more unemployed graduates.
