Women's centres to be established

Women's centres are to be established in the regions to help promote activities of women, Mrs Gladys Asmah, Minister of Women's Affairs, said on Thursday.

The centres, she said, would monitor the activities of women who play key roles in national development efforts, especially in the agricultural sector.

She was speaking when the Chinese Ambassador in Ghana, Mr Lu Yougshou, presented 20 sewing machines to the ministry to assist women to acquire skills.

The minister expressed the hope that the visit would generate fruitful co-operation between the two countries to promote the welfare of their women.

Mr Lu who was accompanied by his wife, Ma Wenying, commended the government for creating a new ministry to cater for the needs of women and assured the minister that his country would continue to support Ghana in her efforts to promote the welfare of her people.

Key sectors for assistance, he said, will include the agricultural, mining and construction industries.
