The Eastern Regional Police Command has arrested a 34-year-old woman and her son in connection with the alleged murder of her 36-year-old husband, a land agent at Nsawam-Aduakrom in the Eastern Region.

According to the report, she further attempted to murder her 15-year-old step son.

The suspects, identified as Abigail Cheetham and her son, Prince, have been remanded into police custody pending further investigations.

According to a report by crimechecknewsgh.com on June 1, 2026, the incident occurred on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at the family residence in Nsawam-Aduakrom.

The deceased, identified as Nicholas Cheetham, was allegedly killed, while his 15-year-old son, Richmond, survived an attempted murder attack.

Preliminary investigations indicate that tensions arose after Abigail allegedly discovered her husband had fathered a child outside their marriage.

Police report added that the matter had initially been resolved after Nicholas reportedly pleaded for forgiveness and compensated her (his wife) with money and a plot of land.

However, investigators believe Abigail allegedly proceeded with plans to kill Nicholas.

34 arrested over deadly Funsi chieftaincy clash

“On Saturday, March 7, 2026, around 4pm, Nicholas handed GH¢30,000 to his wife to keep safe till the next morning. Abigail informed Prince about her plan and told him about the money. Prince called a friend to help them kill his step-father. His friend demanded GH¢8,000 for his involvement, which Abigail paid right out of the money Nicholas told her to keep,” the report stated.

According to the report, Abigail allegedly ensured Nicholas slept deeply before the attack.

“That night around 12:30 a.m., Abigail is said to have had intercourse with Nicholas so he would sleep deeply. Then, she reportedly called Prince and his friend into the bedroom, and they allegedly helped kill Nicholas,” the report added.

Richmond, the deseased’s 15-year-old son, is said to have witnessed part of the incident after hearing unusual noises.

“After disposing of Nicholas's body, they went after Richmond, broke his neck and hit his head with a cement block till he passed out,” the report indicated.

Believing the teenager was dead, the suspects allegedly left him nearby while they prepared to dispose of his body.

“Fortunately, Richmond miraculously woke up, ran to the next neighbor's house with blood oozing from his head, and told them everything that transpired,” the report further stated.

The Eastern Regional Police Command confirmed the arrests, saying two suspects are in custody while efforts are underway to apprehend a third suspect.

“We received a report early Sunday morning and moved in swiftly. Two suspects are in custody, and we are pursuing the third suspect. The survivor is receiving medical treatment,” the command said.

Police say investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and motive behind the incident.
