Woman sentenced for offensive conduct

Dormaa Ahenkro (B/A), May 27, GNA - A circuit court at Dormaa Ahenkro has imposed a fine of GHC 100 on Ama Serwaa of Susuanso Number Two in Dormaa Municipality for offensive conduct at home and before the court. The woman was arraigned for verbally assaulting a neighbour over GHC 2 but her misdemeanour and gross disregard for the court attracted the fine and in default would serve three months in jail. She will in addition serve two weeks imprisonment for unruly behaviour.

Police Chief Inspector N. K. Yeboah, prosecuting, told the court that Mr John Kwadwo Amoh, a businessman at Susuano Number Two, gave some money to one Augustine to buy maize for him. He said Serwaa heard about the deal and went for GHC 2 of the money with a promise to provide the maize. Serwaa failed to honour her promise and refused to pay back the money so Augustine reported her behaviour to the businessman. The prosecutor said at a meeting with Mr. Amoh, Serwaa admitted her guilt but when Mr. Amoh and Augustine made attempts to retrieve the money from her, she insulted them. Mr. Amoh reported Serwaa's rudeness to the police. Serwaa admitted her guilt but went ahead to insult the two again in the full glare of the judge and all those in the court. The judge condemned her behaviour, describing it as an affront to the dignity of the court.
