Woman arrested for trading in Indian hemp

A 74 – year old woman, Adama Abubakari, unemployed, from Anyinasuso near Offinso is being held by the Offinso Police for allegedly trading in dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ACP) in charge of Offinso Divisional Police Command, Mr Edward Oduro –Kwarteng, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that, on May 26, 2015, at about 04: 30 hours, the Police a had a tip off that the old-lady had a quantity of the narcotic substance in her house, and was selling to some youth in the area.

He said the Police rushed to the woman’s house and feigned interest in purchasing some of the stuff and in the process of selling it to them, she was arrested.

Police found exhibits of four parcels of the dried leaves, and some wrapped weed in small pieces of paper ready for the market.

After interrogation, she mentioned one Salifu of Sefwi-Wiaso, in the Western Region, as her source of supply. The police is making attempts to arrest him as investigations go on.

The Police Commander called on informants to not hesitate to alert law enforcers about people who produce and sell narcotics.
