A mining consultant, Ing Wisdom Edem Gomashie, has officially filed a Right to Information (RTI) request to the Minerals Commission of Ghana, seeking extensive data on mining operations, lease renewals, and revenue flows within the industry.
According to a letter issued on March 31, 2026, he indicated that the request is grounded in the Right to Information Act, 2019 (Act 989), stressing the need for transparency and accountability in the management of Ghana’s mineral resources.
According to him, the move is also aligned with the mandate of the commission under the Minerals Commission Act, 1993 (Act 450).
“I formally request access to information under the Right to Information Act, 2019 (Act 989), in the interest of transparency, accountability, and the efficient management of Ghana’s natural resources,” portions of the letter stated.

The request, which he said is being made in the public interest, focuses on governance and regulatory oversight within Ghana’s mining sector, with particular attention to both large-scale and small-scale mining activities.
Gomashie is specifically demanding a detailed list of all multinational large-scale mining companies currently operating in Ghana, including their lease grant and expiry dates, as well as companies that have applied for lease renewals or extensions since January 2024.
“A list of all multinational large-scale mining companies operating currently in Ghana, including their respective mining lease grant dates and expiry dates,” he requested, adding that similar details should be provided for firms that have sought renewals.
He requested for information about companies whose lease renewal applications have been rejected within the same period, including reasons for such decisions, alongside production data for both large-scale and small-scale mining operations.
He further raised concerns about revenue implications following the establishment of the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140), questioning whether the implementation of the Ghana Gold Board has led to any reassignment of revenue streams from the Minerals Commission.
“Information on whether the implementation of the Ghana Gold Board… has resulted in the transfer or reassignment of any revenue streams previously accruing to the Minerals Commission,” he stated.
He further requested details on affected revenue categories and their proportional impact.
The RTI also requests for copies or summaries of proposed amendments to Ghana’s mining policy framework and the Minerals and Mining Act, 2006 (Act 703), as well as monitoring and evaluation reports on large-scale mining companies for 2024 and 2025.
Ing Wisdom Gomashie also requested clarification on the institutional role of the Minerals Commission in geological investigations conducted in partnership with the Ghana Geological Survey Authority under the Ghana Gold Board framework.
“Clarification on the institutional role of the Minerals Commission in relation to geological investigation initiatives undertaken in collaboration with the Ghana Geological Survey Authority,” the letter noted.
Further, he is demanding data on management-level personnel within multinational mining firms, including their roles and nationality distribution between Ghanaians and expatriates.
The RTI filing also touches on the Damang Gold Mine, where Gomashie is requesting a non-confidential summary or extract of technical assessment reports, following its transfer from Gold Fields Ghana Limited to the Government of Ghana.
“A non-confidential summary or extract of the transition or technical assessment report related to the Damang Gold Mine… including high-level valuation considerations that influenced the recent tender processes,” he requested.
He concluded by stating that the requested information would be provided within the timelines stipulated under the RTI law, noting the importance of timely disclosure.
