Winneba District Hospital needs wider drainage

Winneba C/R), June 4, GNA - An Assembly Member has appealed to Government to construct a wider drainage to direct rainwater from the newly built Winneba District Hospital into the sea. Ms Elizabeth Awo Senah, Assembly Member for Low Cost-Kojo Bedu North Area in Winneba, made the appeal after meeting the residents and inspecting buildings that were affected by floods in the area, on Wednesday. She complained that volume of water in the area that is low lying increase any time it rained following the construction of the hospital. Madam Senah said the exiting drainage was too small to direct rain wate= r and called for the construction of a wider one to join the Ntafokom stream, which leads to the sea.

She said the Effutu Municipal Assembly said it could not bear the cost of the construction of a wider drainage at the hospital. Madam Sena appealed to the Town and Country Planning Department to prevent people from indiscriminately building kiosks and other structures along the road in the area. She asked the people to pay their monthly contribution of five Ghana Cedis to support the Community Watch Dog Committee to ensure regular night patrols of the area. The residents appealed to the District Assembly to construct a new toile= t since the old facility has become a death trap.
