A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Kwame Amoako Tuffour has questioned if incumbent Members of Parliament in the Ashanti region will be occupying their seats if their predecessors had blocked them from contesting their seats.

Dr Tuffour reminded the incumbent lawmakers that they went for contests before winning their various seats, stressing that every party member has the right to be ambitious and to contest.

Speaking with Kwabena Prah on Accra100.5FM’s Morning Show, ‘Ghana Yen Som’, Dr Tuffuor queried, “What’s going on is not right at all, imposing incumbent MPs in the Ashanti region on constituents is not the best, everybody must be giving a fair playing field. Would the sitting MPs be where they are now if they were blocked from contesting with their predecessors”?

His comment comes on the back of a recent remark by the Ashanti regional Chairman of NPP Bernard Antwi Boasiako popularly called ‘Wontumi’ that all sitting MPs in the region should go unopposed.

Dr Tuffour noted that the imposition of parliamentary candidates on constituents should be looked into, describing as unfair any move to impose candidates on constituents.
