Why resumption of Parliament has been postponed indefinitely - Speaker explains

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has announced the postponement of the Third Meeting of the First Session of the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic.

In a statement dated October 6, 2025, Speaker Bagbin said the commencement of the meeting has been deferred due to circumstances beyond his control.

“Pursuant to the notice to summon Parliament dated September 29, 2025, I, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament, hereby give notice that the commencement of the Third Meeting of the First Session of the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic is deferred until further notice due to circumstances beyond my control,” the statement read.

Earlier, in a statement dated September 9, 2025, the Speaker had announced that Parliament would resume sitting on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, for the Third Meeting of the First Session.

Parliament went on recess on Friday, August 1, 2025, at the conclusion of the Second Meeting of the year.

The Third Meeting is expected to consider pending bills, reports, and other matters of national interest as Members of Parliament return from recess.
