Tasty Tom, one of the leading tomato mix brands in the country, has been trending on social media.
This follows the immediate suspension of its production by the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) over safety concerns.
In its statement, the FDA cited serious health and safety issues raised by consumers who reported problems with the product’s quality.
The FDA also launched an investigation into the manufacturing facility of Nutrifoods Ghana Limited, producers of Tasty Tom.
This development came after the authority earlier recalled all canned Tasty Tom products, as well as specific batches of its pouch variants (380g and 1.05kg), from the market.
“The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has suspended the manufacture of Tasty Tom Enriched Tomato Mix with immediate effect. A market recall of all canned Tasty Tom Enriched Tomato Mix products, and specific batches of the product in pouches (the 380g and 1.05kg pouches) was earlier directed by the FDA," it noted in an August 3, 2025, release.
This development has sparked widespread reactions and concerns among Ghanaian netizens, who are calling out Nutrifoods for what they believe is endangering the lives of consumers through its products — particularly the Tasty Tom Tomato Mix.
While some netizens have commended the FDA for its swift intervention, others have criticised the authority for what they believe were delays — citing timelines of when they first noticed issues with the product.
According to them, the negative side effects potentially associated with the recalled products could be highly damaging, despite the FDA's intervention.
Other netizens have also called on the FDA to investigate other consumer products manufactured by Nutrifoods, in order to prevent a recurrence of this situation.

In the wake of FDA’s suspension of Tasty Tom, one thing is clear— their recovery won’t be easy. Trust is broken, fear is real, and the mess is widespread. Rising above this will take more than apologies.
