Former Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, is back in the spotlight after failing to appear before the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) on June 2, 2025, the deadline set for his return and appearance.
Due to this, the OSP has redeclared him as wanted and a fugitive, stating that Ofori-Attaโs conduct demonstrated a lack of cooperation with the ongoing investigation.
This has sparked varied conversations among Ghanaians on social media, particularly on X.
Netizens have expressed the view that the former minister may be attempting to evade accountability.
They argue that the medical reasons provided by Ofori-Attaโs legal team appear to be an excuse to avoid appearing before the OSP.
Others have also suggested that the OSP should take it upon itself to verify the former ministerโs medical status following a disclosure that he has been diagnosed with cancer.
On the other hand, some netizens have speculated that the recent ordeal of Bernard Antwi Boasiako, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who was arrested and detained by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) over alleged crimes might have unsettled Ofori-Atta, possibly influencing his decision not to honor the OSPโs invitation.
Meanwhile, the OSP has accused Ofori-Atta of acting in bad faith, emphasising that suspects cannot dictate the terms of an investigation.

If Kissi could travel to the UK to interview Samuel Adam Foster Mahama โ @JDMahamaโs brother, whom he aided in brokering the Airbus deal โ with the sole aim of persuading him to return and settle in Ghana, why canโt he travel to the USA to interview Ken Ofori-Atta?

How special is Ken Ofori Atta that all of a sudden all of you are devising a matter way the OSP should have followed. The law is the law and citizens are equal

The excuse of unverified sickness cannot steal the storm of accountability from the boat of Ken Ofori-Atta but can only help to anchor the sail of justice and expeditious probe by the OSP. pic.twitter.com/IN2iygjtuu

Ken Ofori Atta has cancer?
โ newage (@newagepioneers) June 3, 2025
This is verifiable. If he has cancer, he can be cured. If he does not have cancer and lied that he has cancer to escape accountability, he must be found and picked without any further question. And he must be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
This OSP thing with Ken Ofori-Atta is nothing but pure gimmickry.

So, the NDC and Mahama are going to allow these NPP guy to continue to manipulate this rather serious case?
You continue to take this so-called reset agenda by JDM at your own peril.
Look at Chairman Wontumi closely ; now be honest, would you really tell Ken Ofori-Atta to pack his bags and come back to Ghana if he was your uncle?.
