Why Joyce Bawah says President Mahama is his own best spokesperson

Special Aide to President John Dramani Mahama, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, has praised the president’s recent media engagement, highlighting his ability to communicate effectively and noting that his performance shows why she considers him his own best spokesperson.

In a post on her X page on Thursday, September 11, 2025, she said the engagement drew wide public attention and reflected the eagerness of Ghanaians to see their leaders account for their actions.

“Over the years, presidential media interviews have shown that citizens are increasingly eager for such engagements and look forward to seeing their leaders regularly account for their actions and share efforts to improve lives. It is no surprise, then, that the most watched and followed programme last night was the President’s media briefing,” she wrote.

She noted that President Mahama used the platform to outline measures aimed at strengthening economic growth and expanding opportunities.

“President Mahama delivered his message with cadence and passion, communicating his vision effectively and persuasively. He presented compelling arguments about the future of the economy and all key sectors, and outlined the deliberate measures being taken to strengthen growth and expand opportunities,” she said.

According to her, the briefing showed that the president and the public shared a common understanding on the direction of the country.

“It is evident that the people of Ghana are ad idem with Mr. Mahama – that progress is being made and that our young democracy is flourishing,” she added.

Joyce Bawah pointed out President Mahama’s composure and his ability to respond to questions with clarity.

“The president’s demeanor, his readiness to respond meaningfully to questions and his characteristic blend of humour and humility revealed clarity of thought and deep respect for all, both inside and outside the auditorium,” she noted.

Joyce Bawah further described Mahama as his “own best spokesperson,” citing his communication skills as a key strength.

She added that his reaffirmation of Ghana’s democratic credentials, explanation of why the NDC did not use its parliamentary majority to override the opposition, and his focus on poverty alleviation reflected his leadership convictions.

“He embodied compassion, empathy and a consistent willingness to be transparent, accountable and respectful to both the media and the public,” she added.

The event provided the president a platform to interact with the Ghanaian public through the media.
