An appeal by Rev Victor Kusi Boateng against North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has been thrown out by the Court of Appeal.

In a unanimous decision delivered on Thursday, March 26, 2026, a three-member panel led by Justice Anthony Oppong said it was unable to clearly determine who the plaintiff was, after two different identities were presented before the court.

The judges described it as a critical flaw that undermined the case from the outset.

The court further noted that even without the identity concerns, the appeal would still not have succeeded based on its merits.

It held that the statements made by Ablakwa were not only true but also served the public interest, particularly in the context of protecting public funds. On that basis, the appeal was dismissed in its entirety.

The Court also awarded costs of GH¢40,000 against Rev Kusi Boateng in favour of Ablakwa.

The case traces back to allegations surrounding the controversial National Cathedral project.

Ablakwa had accused Rev Kusi Boateng, who served as Secretary to the Board of Trustees, of conflict of interest and operating under multiple identities.

In January 2023, the MP petitioned the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), citing concerns about possible financial impropriety, including a GH¢2.6 million payment to a company allegedly linked to the Reverend under a different identity.

In response, Rev Kusi Boateng filed a defamation suit against the MP. That case was dismissed by the High Court, presided over by Justice Barbara Tetteh-Charway.

Dissatisfied with the ruling, he proceeded to the Court of Appeal, but has now lost that challenge as well.
