Whitesands Beach Complex Embarks Upon Expansion Project

The WhiteSands Hotel and Beach Resort, at Gomoa Fetteh in the Central Region is undergoing reconstruction to expand its facilities.

The hotel, which has water sporting facilities including jet skis, surfboards and a seasonal pontoon boat services, is building additional chalets with modern facilities that will overlook the Atlantic Ocean.

It is the most favoured facility by pleasure-seeking tourists and business executives who want to have a change of environment along the coast.

Briefing the press during a media tour of facilities at the hotel last Thursday, the General Manager, Mr. Rogier B. Streefkerk said management of the hotel had invested heavily in the expansion project for which work had begun. He said work on the multi-billion-cedi project would be completed in a year.

During the media encounter, the press was taken round to see some of the facilities including the executive chalets, the Lagoon Terrace, and other facilities at the beach.

At the moment the hotel and beach resort have two executive chalets and a family house with two double rooms.

Its clientele is made up of a mixed package including 40% expatriates, 30% Ghanaians, 20% groups and 10% tourists.

In just two years of its operation the hotel has registered a strong presence in the local and international market with its high quality service.

The hotel's resort won 4 awards last year at the Central Regional Tourism Awards ceremony as the New Comer of the Year, Manager of the Year, Restaurant of the Year and Consistency in Marketing and Promotions.

Its restaurant was adjudged the Restaurant of the Year during last year's National Tourism Awards ceremony held in Accra.

It has an impressive architectural design with the elements of nature preservation and strictly complies with environmental protection rules.

Children are not left out of the fun at WhiteSands. They can have a good time in a large amusement park created for them, which has a variety of toys and children's games.

On December 16, 2001, the hotel will organise a Fun Day that will feature games and entertainment, races, Jet Ski Slalom races and tug of war among others.

It will also organise an annual Sand Sculpture Competition between December 26, 2001 and January 3, 2001. Alitalia, Ederick and Somo Vision will sponsor the competition.
