The Managing Editor of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Kweku Baako Jnr has punched holes in an assertion made by Sam Pee Yaley, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) concerning the Electoral Commssions decision to compile a new voters' register.

Sam Pee Yaley contributing to a panel discussion on Peace FM's morning show 'Kokrokoo', Wednesday, said the EC doesn't have the legal mandate to compile a new voters' register.

Quoting article 45 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, he said: "the power to revise, register, does not lie with the Electoral Commissioner. It is a function they have to perform, given to it by law . . . maybe it's just an intention and we are all splitting heads over it but I will wait and look at the reasons why a new voters' register has to be established, but I hold strongly (the view) that Ghana has a register which is credible."

However, Kweku Baako who was not satisfied with the explanation given by the former Ambassador to India; in a text message, asked, "which law disables the Electoral Commission from compiling a new register? I am still waiting for an answer to my simple question."

" . . until a law is passed either in a CI; the right to compile or revise a register is a constitutional issue, it does not lie with the EC," Sam Pee Yaley replied.

However, Kweku Baako didn't let him off the hook...he continued to send in text messages to punch holes in Sam Pee Yaley's argument.
