The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, has described his appointment as both a privilege and a responsibility to demonstrate the value of youth in governance.

In an interview with JoyNews, monitored by GhanaWeb on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, he stated that he does not take the opportunity for granted.

“It’s a privilege to get the opportunity to serve Ghana and the Ashanti Region at a very young age. It’s an opportunity I don’t want to take for granted. I want to do it to the best of my ability so that we will have more reasons to include the youth in leadership,” he explained.

Dr Amoakohene added that this sense of duty drives him to personally attend to almost every issue that comes before him, stressing that leadership must be hands-on and people-centred.

Sharing his conversation with President John Dramani Mahama before accepting the role, Dr Amoakohene said he sought clarity on what was expected of him.

“I asked him directly what he needs me to do in the region. All he told me was to make him proud,” he revealed.

“Sometimes, when I seek his view on major decisions, he asks me, ‘What do you think? You are in charge of the region.’ Once he’s okay with my perspective, I go ahead and implement it to the best of my ability,” he added.

Dr Frank Amoakohene, a medical professional and youth leader with a strong background in healthcare, governance, and public service, is one of the youngest ministers in the John Dramani Mahama-led government.
