West Akyem MCE accused of voting twice

Asamankese, Dec. 27, GNA - The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the West Akyem Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Kwabena Sintim-Aboagye, of voting twice during the December 23 special voting but he denied it.

The NDC claimed he voted both at Asamankese in the Lower West Akyem Constituency and at Adeiso in the Upper West Akyem constituency.

Speaking at a press conference at Asamankese Mr Seth Otchere, NDC parliamentary candidate who lost on December 7, said the party was calling on the police to take action against Mr Sintim-Aboagye for the "illegal act".

He said the party had enough evidence that there were multiple voting in the two constituencies and called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to nullify the December 23 special voting exercise.

The NDC called on the EC to furnish the party with the full list of people who voted at Asamankese and Adeiso on December 23 to enable them to cross-check their names in the voters' register. Mr Kwabena Sintim-Aboagye denied he voted twice in the special voting exercise.

He described the allegation as false, absurd and baseless and an attempt by the NDC to tarnish his reputation and drag his name into disrepute.

Mr Sintim-Aboagye said on that day he first visited a polling station at the Asamankese Post Office where he voted and later went to the Adeiso polling station to observe voting and never voted there.

"The only way of getting the attention of the people is to attack me personally, throw dust into the eyes of the people and create confusion, anxiety and tension in the municipality prior to the run off on December 28," he said.

Mr Sintim-Aboagye said the perpetrators of the lies could not make him lose his focus towards achieving the goals he had set for himself to work hard to ensure that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government wins the presidential run-off and Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo to assume the Presidency in January 2009.
