Wesley Girls 74 Year Group inaugurates foundation

The 1974 Year Group of Wesley Girls’ High School on Tuesday inaugurated a foundation to support their Alma Mater’s underprivileged students, teachers’ welfare and the development and maintenance of infrastructure.

The Foundation was unveiled by Ms. Paulina Dzadzawa, the Vice President of the 1974 Year Group at the School’s 178th anniversary and 2015 speech and prize giving day.

This year’s speech and prize giving day was themed “Striving to Make ICT a Tool For National Development – The Role of the Stakeholder.”

The Chief Justice, Mrs. Justice Georgina Theodora Wood, an old girl of the School and the Guest of Honour, congratulated the 1974 Year Group on their foresight in setting up the fund.

Ms. Esther Cobbah, the Chief Executive Officer of Strategic Communications Africa Ltd (Stratcomm Africa) and President of the 1974 Year Group, praised the school’s continued record of excellence in the face of an infrastructure gap.

“Since we value what is being done in this wonderful institution, all of us old girls particularly have the responsibility to contribute to the good work”, she said.

She expressed the hope that products of Wesley Girls everywhere, would prove to be models of integrity and accountability in line with the School’s vision.

Mrs. Betty Djokoto, the Headmistress, expressed her gratitude to the old girls for their generosity.

“Our old girls continue to be the backbone of our school. I believe their continuous success in life is due to the fact that they sacrificially give towards a worthy cause to make the lives of others better,” she said.

On ICT, Ms. Cobbah said it was important to be innovating and to produce.

She said: “It is when we ourselves take hold of the enormous potential of ICT and become innovators, not just consumers of what others produce that we can derive value for our nation and our continent.”

Mrs. Abigail Paintsil, a former Deputy Auditor General and a member of the 1964 Year Group also outlined some critical roles that different stakeholders could play to make ICT useful to the country.
