Wednesday downpour causes floods in Accra

Heavy rains Wednesday evening caused severe flooding in some parts of Accra especially the Mallam-Gbawe area.

The rains, which started in some areas around 4.30 p.m., flooded areas such as the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Dansoman Roundabout and Mallam.

According to a resident at Mallam, vehicular movement in those areas have been brought to a standstill as a result of the flooding, with some residents, pedestrians and motorists marooned and waiting patiently for the floods to subside.

While some pedestrians and motorists struggled to navigate the few dry spots and least flooded portions of the road, to reach their destinations others busily scooped water from their homes and shops.

Although no casualties have been recorded some drivers who plied the affected areas complained about the perennial flooding in parts of the city anytime there were heavy rains and called for a permanent solution to the problem.

The resident of flooding at Mallam told XYZ News that the flooding happens every year and it is as if the government is not interested to solve the problem permanently.
