Website to provide election information launched

Accra, Sept. 3, GNA - A website that would provide information on Ghana's upcoming elections and related issues to the world, has been launched.

The portal, www.ghanaelectionwatch.com, has information on Ghanaian elections from 1951 to 2004 and is expected to feed both local and international media with relevant information leading to the December elections.

Mr Reuben Amofah, Coordinator of EARLS Ghana, developers of the website, said it was convinced that reliable information could help prevent conflict.

He said the website, which is non-partisan, has reliable and truthful information, which would be useful to many Ghanaians who are not able to access true information on election issues from the mainstream media.

He called on authorities to use the internet to educate voters on their rights and responsibilities during and after the voting period. Mr Affail Monney, Vice President of the Ghana Journalists' Association, called on journalists not to stoke passion with their reportage during this electioneering period.

Rather, they should to provide relevant information to guide the electorate to determine who to vote for.
