President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo–Addo has extended a congratulatory message to football legend and leader of opposition Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) Senator George Manneh Weah following his electoral victory over Unity Party (UP) Standard Bearer and Vice President Joseph Boakai.

He expressed hope that his victory and his subsequent ascending the highest office of that country will strengthen the frontiers of democracy to improve the living standards of its citizens.

Former football star George Weah has been elected as Liberia’s president with nearly all ballots from Tuesday’s run-off vote counted.

Mr. Weah as at Wednesday was well ahead of opponent Joseph Boakai with more than 61% of the vote sparking spontaneous jubilations in the capital Monrovia.

He will succeed Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Africa’s first elected female president, in Liberia’s first democratic handover in decades.

In a facebook post, Ghana’s President said:” Warm congratulations to George Oppong Weah on his decisive victory in Liberia’s peaceful presidential run-off, thus becoming the next President of the Republic of Liberia.

Vice President Boakai is also to be commended for the maturity of his campaign. This election has strengthened the frontiers of democracy in Liberia, and it is our hope that it will lead to the improvement of the living standards of Liberians.
