Deputy Minister-designate for Transport, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, has pledged to support efforts to reduce road accidents across the country if approved for the role.

Appearing before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Friday, July 25, 2025, she outlined several strategies she intends to pursue in collaboration with the substantive Minister to enhance road safety nationwide.

Among the measures she highlighted were:

• Enhanced public education on road safety,

• Development of a more effective emergency response system,

• Improved road signage, and

• Deployment of technologies such as speed detection cameras.

Affo-Toffey also emphasized the importance of enforcing existing traffic laws and strengthening them where necessary to help reduce fatalities and injuries on Ghana’s roads.

“When I’m given the nod, I will assist my Minister to ensure that we put in place measures to curb accidents, for instance, by educating the general public, ensuring an effective emergency response system, installing clear signage, and deploying cameras to monitor speed limits,” she stated.

She added that stricter enforcement and improved regulation would be central to any meaningful effort to address the issue of road crashes.

Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin officially referred the nominees to the Appointments Committee on Thursday, July 17, 2025.

Once approved, their appointments will complete President John Dramani Mahama’s team of 60 ministers, in line with his 2024 campaign pledge.
