The Navrongo Central Constituency Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Anontara Richard, has called on members of the party to put their differences behind and foster unity for a massive victory in elections 2020.

He said the huge task of returning to power is a responsibility of all members and would need nothing less of a united party to come out the triumph.

Addressing top executives and sympathizers of the umbrella fraternity in his welcome speech at a fundraising dinner in Navrongo on Saturday 22nd December, 2018, Mr. Anontara reiterated the need to have a united party, with a call on members to patch up differences that rose during the constituency elections.

He also cautioned against allowing their differences to divide them as he said that could greatly affect the fortunes of the party in its efforts to reclaim power from the New Patriotic Party government.

Speaking on the theme of the fundraiser, Mr. Anontara appealed to members to contribute towards the building of an office space for the party in the constituency. He said the idea of raising the structure has been a dream the party has been working on and it will take the support of all members to achieve it.

“Mr. Chairman, building a party office has always been the dream of this constituency for a long time. Having taken the bold step to achieving this dream, we carefully chose the theme for the program as ‘Party Office, Together We Build’. It is everybody’s duty as a party member to contribute to this remarkable cause”.

The Upper East Regional Vice Chairman of the Party, Akanyele Williams, who was guest speaker, urged members to learn the habit of forgiveness for one another. According to him, the political space is such that those who hold on to grudges and do not forgive will always be on the losing end.

He challenged the Navrongo Central Constituency to, in addition to building a befitting party office, work hard in reclaiming the Parliamentary seat. To this end, Mr. Akanyele pleaded with members to do away with individualism and focus much on party interests.

“One thing is that, it is difficult to forgive when someone wrongs you. But in politics, if you don’t build the habit of forgiveness, you will always be at the losing side”.

“In this constituency, it was only once in 1992 that we (NDC) lost Presidential in this constituency. We always win the Presidential but when it comes to parliamentary, it becomes a swing seat. It means that, we put our personal interests more than the party’s interest and that is why we have ourselves where we are”, he said.
