The Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has warned that the party will not shield any government appointee found to have engaged in corruption, insisting that wrongdoing will be exposed regardless of political affiliation.

In a viral video on X on December 15, 2025, Gbande said he does not need any directive from President John Dramani Mahama to refrain from misusing public funds, stressing that his personal values and morals would not permit such conduct.

“And anybody who thinks that we have worked hard for you to come and steal, we ourselves will expose you. Take it from me, any appointee who steals money, we ourselves will expose the person. We didn’t work hard to enrich individuals; we worked hard to save the people of Ghana”, he stated.

Gbande, however, admitted that he is openly partisan and would prioritise party loyalists in opportunities where discretion allows.

He stated that while he would favour NDC supporters over members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), he would never be complicit in the theft of public funds.

“That is the only thing I will be an accomplice to being very political. If you give me something to share, I’ll give 90 per cent to my party people and 10 per cent to NPP people. That’s how biased I can be. But to go and steal government money, no”, he indicated.

Gbande further disclosed that he deliberately avoids government contracts and business dealings to prevent any perception of impropriety, claiming that political opponents and even detractors within his own party have attempted to find fault with him.

He also criticised some appointees for losing touch with the party’s grassroots supporters, warning that the party would take a firm stance against such officials after January.

Gbande said appointments should not sideline party faithful who worked for the NDC’s electoral victory, cautioning that failure to recognise their role could have serious consequences within the party.
