The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has said that it has not approved new transport fares.

Ghanaians who depend on commercial transport are expressing shock and disapproval over new transport fares. Some have described the new fares as outrageous.

Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, National Communication Team member of GPRTU, Samuel Amoah, said the union has not approved the new charges.

He indicated that the situation has come to their attention and that efforts are underway to finalise the negotiations.

He revealed that by Monday, April 30, 2024, the new and approved fares would be released.

He assured members of the union that the approved percentage for the increment would be announced soon.

He said, "There is a laid-down procedure for an increment, but the unfortunate thing is that the minister has travelled, so we have not been able to finalise our discussions. But the minister is back, and we will be meeting with him on Monday. The delay is not the best, but we will surely reach an agreement by Monday.”
