Atik Mohammed, Former General Secretary of PNC Atik Mohammed, Former General Secretary of PNC

Former People National Convention (PNC) General Secretary, Atik Mohammed, has warned that Ghanaians will resist any form of gay activism in the country.

Atik’s posturing follows president Akufo-Addo’s suggestion in an interview with Aljazeera that, Ghanaians’ hard stance on homosexuality could change if a strong pro- gay activists emerge.

“This is a social, cultural issue, I don’t believe that in Ghana so far, a sufficiently strong coalition has emerged which is having that impact on public opinion that will say ‘change it, let’s now have a new paradigm in Ghana.’

“At the moment, I don’t feel, I don’t see that in Ghana there is that strong current of opinion that is saying this is something we need to deal with. It is not so far a matter that is on the agenda,” he added.

However, Atik has described the president’s position as sad saying, “homosexuality is politically, socially, culturally and in fact, legally wrong in Ghana.

Read full statement on his Facebook page:

Homosexuality is politically, socially, culturally and in fact, legally wrong in Ghana. It is therefore very sad to hear the President attempt a suggestion that, with increased homosexual activism in Ghana, it just might get his support to become legal.

Do we remember the country’s reaction especially the opposition (myself inclusive) to former President Mahama’s alleged friendship with Andrew Solomon? We spared no opportunity to take him to the cleaners for merely entertaining a gay at his book launch.

We must protect Ghana’s moral fiber from any form of corruption! And we shall resist any form of gay activism in this country!!!!
