The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong, has urged party members to exercise restraint in their utterances as the party works to reclaim power from the incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2028.
He made these remarks in an appreciation speech to former MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, following a generous GH¢1 million donation to the party to settle arrears owed to staff at the NPP headquarters.
In a video shared on X by Starr 103.5 FM on April 25, 2025, Kodua Frimpong emphasised that unity is essential for the party's victory.
He particularly cautioned against unguarded verbal exchanges within the party, appealing to members to be measured in their speech if they hope to secure victory in the 2028 elections.
“The party is very grateful to have people like you in our midst. For you to present one million Ghana cedis during these trying times, genuinely and honestly, we are grateful. I know this will put smiles on our staff’s faces. I want to put it on record that no matter what, we are one family, and I loved what you said when we went to Kumasi to make a donation at the Central Market. You said unity is what will propel us to win the 2028 election. This should be the message all of us carry forward.”
“Where we sit as national officers is not easy because everyone who comes here has his or her own interests. If you have the party at heart, you’ll understand that when the right time comes and the party opens nominations, in the NPP, there will always be a contest.
"We can never stop anyone from contesting. But at the end of the day, only one person will win. So let us be mindful and decorous in our utterances, so that when nominations open, whoever wins will have the full support of the party. The enemy is not among us, the enemy is the NDC,” he said.
Background
Unconfirmed reports indicate that workers of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the largest opposition political party in Ghana, are owed several months’ salaries.
Staff at the NPP’s national headquarters have reportedly not been paid for several months following the party’s defeat in the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.
