Karim Zito, coach of off-season Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) G-8 champions, has said, his side was presented with an opportunity to win the competition and they ensured it was utilised.

“It was an opportunity we could not resist, so we grabbed it. We are happy because it was our major trophy since joining the premiership”. Coach Zito stated in an interview with the GNA Sports on Monday.

Dreams FC beat Hearts of Oak 2-1 at the Cape Coast Stadium on Sunday, to clinch their first trophy before the commencement of the new season.

He said even though it was not in their initial plans to win the competition, they had prepared better than all the other competing teams, hence the success.

“I started my season earlier than most of the coaches. So after playing in some high profile matches, we had the opportunity in the G8 and then we continued from there.

“So the whole thing is we had early beginning and that was an advantage for us,” Zito said.

The former Inter Allies trainer added that they became more interested in the tournament when they realised they had gotten to the semi-final stage, which gave them a chance at winning the ultimate.

“We went into the tournament with the simple objective to showcase the brand of football Dreams would be known for in the coming season. But if an opportunity presents itself, you must grab it. We didn’t even know we had qualified to the semi-final, till I was called that we had qualified,” coach Zito stated.
