We are prepared to face any court -ET

THE former Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr E.T. Mensah, has stated that functionaries of the former National Democratic Congress (NDC) government are prepared to account for their stewardship to the people.

“We are prepared to face any court of competent jurisdiction over any charges preferred against us because our hands are clean,” he said.

Mr Mensah, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Prampram-Ningo and the National Youth Organiser of the NDC, said this at a meeting with representatives of the youth and women’s wings of the NDC at Sunyani, on Monday.

The meeting was part of the on-going re-organisation exercise intended to reactivate structures of the party in order to recapture political power in the 2004 general elections.

According to Mr Mensah , it is highly unfortunate that the Kufuor administration instead of concentrating on resolving the country’s problems, is rather spending time and energy to castigate the NDC.

He added that the misinformation campaign which the government has embarked upon is part of a grand design to dismember the NDC in order to make it impossible for it to regain political power in the next general elections.

Mr Mensah, therefore, urged members of the party to remain firm in the face of such intrigues by the government and work hard during the next two years to enable the party to wrest back power from the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The NDC Youth Organiser said it was good that the party did not win the last general elections, pointing out that “ God wanted to teach Ghanaians the difference between the good policies of the NDC and those of the Kufuor administration”.

He expressed regret that some contractors the NDC helped have turned their backs on the party now that it needs financial resources for its re-organisation exercise.

Mr Mensah said the youth and women’s wings constitute the bedrock of the NDC and suggested that the two wings should be strengthened to mobilise more members to join the party.

The National Women’s Organiser of the NDC, Mrs Cecilia Johnson, stressed the need for the party to capitalise on that she described as the “non-performance of the NPP” to once again assume the political responsibility of the country.

She said the NDC would have wished that the NPP a government fulfilled its electoral promises for the well-being of the people, but stressed that the realities on the ground are that it cannot do so.

Other speakers at the function included Mr. I.K. Adjei-Mensah, Deputy Minority Leader in Parliament; Mrs Alice Boon, MP for Lambussie and Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, MP for Wenchi West.
