We are not destroying ‘V8 documents’ – DVLA refutes claims

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority has denounced rumors about its involvement in the destruction of documents on government vehicles particularly some alleged V8 vehicles bought and distributed by the NDC government.

A photo circulating on social media with an attached caption suggests the DVLA has formed a special task force to clear vital vehicle documents on some V8 vehicles government purchased and disseminated. The caption names incumbent first Lady, Mrs. Lordina Mahama as part of the brains behind this act.

In an interview with GhanaWeb, Deputy Director in charge of DVLA, Alhaji Iddrisu Huseini described the rumors as false indicating that contrary to the rumors being circulated, the documents depicted in the photo are solely vehicle registration documents offloaded from a vehicle at its 37 premises Wednesday.
The documents he noted were being returned in batches by one Intelligent Card Processing systems company (ICPS) the DVLA had contracted to work on the digitization of all its manual registration documents.

“It is unfortunate that something of the sort has gone round when indeed there is no iota of truth in it…in relation to what happened, it was just the return of a particular batch as we’ve been doing….we offloaded all the documents down, we again loaded it with another set of batch with which it went away for digitization”, he said.

Mr. Huseini noted that the authority had informed the public last year about its transition from the manual registration of vehicles to the digitized mode, a process he says will aid in the easy accessibility of vehicle registration details for transfer processes.

According to him, the process which began this year at DVLA offices nationwide will assist the police service in tracking vehicles used in criminal activities began this year.
