We’ll reform legal system’

THE Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Nana Akufo Addo, has expressed the determination of the government to embark on a radical reform of the legal system to enable the country to attract and maintain private investment.

He said the country needs a credible and responsive legal system to stimulate the business community to usher in a “golden age” for business.

Nana Akufo Addo said this when the United States Ambassador to Ghana, Mrs Kathryn Dee Robinson, paid a courtesy call on him.

He said it will, therefore, need a major pre occupation of the new administration to improve the efficiency and the image of the country’s legal system.

The government, Nana Akufo Addo said, will promote respect for the rule of law and good governance, as well as reduce the incidence of corruption in public life.

The minister said Ghana would appreciate any assistance the government and people of the United States can extend in this regard.

Nana Akufo Addo said further that the government was keenly interested in deepening Ghana’s relations with the United States within the context of mutual respect for the national aspirations of both countries.

The ambassador took the opportunity to brief the Attorney General on aspects of joint co-operation between her government and Ghana on strengthening the rule of law, anti-corruption and good governance initiatives.

She also spoke on efforts to help Ghana to improve legal education and support for the Judiciary, among other things.

Further discussions were held on USAID activities in Ghana, and avenues for further co-operation were discussed.
