Watch when Laryea Kingston ‘broke’ Baba Rahman’s leg in 2012 Super Clash

One of the most controversial moments in the history of the Super Clash between Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak came during their dramatic 2012 meeting at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, when Hearts midfielder Laryea Kingston was sent off for a dangerous tackle on a young Baba Rahman.

The fierce Ghana Premier League encounter was already heated when the moment occurred early in the second half.

Kingston lunged into a challenge and stamped on Rahman’s ankle with his outstretched leg in what appeared to be a reckless tackle that could easily have caused serious injury.

The referee wasted little time in producing a red card, sending the experienced Hearts player off and reducing the Phobians to ten men.

At the time, Rahman was still an emerging player for Kotoko, and the challenge drew immediate outrage from the home supporters who feared the youngster’s leg had been badly damaged.

Despite going a man down, Hearts of Oak showed resilience and continued to push forward in search of a result. The match itself turned into a dramatic contest that swung both ways.

Kotoko had taken the lead through a header from Michael Nti Boakye, but Hearts later equalised through Mahatma Otoo’s stunning free kick late in the game.

However, the night ultimately belonged to Kotoko as Michael Akuffo fired in a breathtaking long-range screamer deep into injury time, sealing a 2–1 victory in one of the most memorable Super Clash encounters.
