Tensions marred the Omanjor Homowo celebrations as violent clashes erupted between factions from Omanjor and Sowutuom over boundary disputes during the sprinkling of kpokpoi.
Gunfires rang out during the chaos, with early reports suggesting between six and eight deaths, with one of them suspected to be the Sowutuom Chief’s son.
In a viral video shared widely on social media, people were seen running for their lives as the chaos unfolded.

Armed men were captured firing at targeted individuals, while some police officers appeared on the scene attempting to bring the situation under control.
Police have now confirmed three fatalities and four injuries following the violent clashes during the climax of the Homowo Festival at Sowutuom and Anyaa in the Greater Accra Region on Saturday, August 30, 2025.
A statement from the Accra Regional Police Command said the violence began during the sprinkling of kpokpoi when a misunderstanding between supporters of two rival chiefs escalated into gunfire, sending panic through the crowd.
The unrest later spilled over to Olebu, where fleeing residents reportedly came under further attacks.
The deceased have been identified as Abubakar Ramadan Sarbah, also known as Nii Kwashiebu; Theophilus Nii Amu Kwadjan, and Joseph Shaibu Dodoo.
