A disturbing video has surfaced showing extensive damage to the Nsuta–Bonsawire rail line in Ghana’s Western Region, allegedly caused by illegal mining activities, commonly referred to as ‘galamsey’.
The footage, shared by UTV Ghana on X on October 2, 2025, reveals a massive pit dug directly beneath the railway tracks, causing the line to bend and curve in a dangerous manner.
According to the video report, several metal components have been removed from the tracks, with no information on their whereabouts.

He further stated that the destruction spans from Nsuta through Bonsawire to Prestea, rendering the entire stretch of rail unusable.
This incident highlights the growing threat of illegal mining to Ghana’s infrastructure and raises urgent concerns about safety, accountability, and environmental protection.
