Watch as former AG Dame arrives at CID Headquarters to meet Abronye

Former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, was at the head office of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service (GPS) to meet Kwame Baffoe, the Bono Regional Chairman of the NPP, who is being prosecuted by the state.

GhanaWeb’s reporter at the CID headquarters, George Ayisi, captured the moment Dame arrived to meet Kwame Baffoe (aka Abronye) on the morning of Thursday, September 11, 2025.

The former Attorney General arrived at the CID headquarters in a Mercedes-Benz.

Dame, who could be seen smiling, was joined by NPP’s parliamentary candidate for the Wenchi Constituency in the 2024 elections, Kojo Frempong.

The two men could be seen exchanging pleasantries with a third man. Then they proceeded to enter the CID building.

Here's why Abronye could get a 4-year jail term

Before their arrival, GhanaWeb’s reporter captured the moment Abronye was brought to the CID headquarters by security authorities.

The NPP politician arrived at the CID headquarters in handcuffs, accompanied by two men and a woman in plain clothing perceived to be security officials.

Abronye was taken to the same structure his lawyer, Dame, entered.

Abronye has been remanded into police custody by an Accra Circuit Court on charges of the publication of false news.

He is set to reappear in court on Friday, September 12, 2025.

According to the Ghana Police Service, Abronye was arrested for what it described as "offensive conduct."

"The Ghana Police Service has today, 08/09/25, arrested Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye, for offensive conduct conducive to the breach of peace. He is currently in custody and will be put before court," a statement shared on the Police Service's official social media platforms on September 8, 2025, read.

The arrest follows Abronye's recent attempts to seek political asylum in eight countries, including Côte d'Ivoire and the United States.

He cited political persecution, threats on his life, and alleged abuse of state security powers by the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) government as reasons for his request.
