A heated exchange broke out on Original TV’s political talk show when former Member of Parliament for Dormaa West, Ali Maiga, and the Executive Director of the Good Governance Advocacy Group, Ghana, Listowel Nana Kusi Poku, clashed over issues of governance and democracy in Africa.
The confrontation began after the former New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP, Ali Maiga, accused President John Dramani Mahama of associating with coup leaders across Africa in a relationship he claimed poses a threat to Ghana’s stability.
According to Maiga, Mahama’s interactions with figures such as Captain Ibrahim Traoré, the leader of Burkina Faso, and others, suggest tacit support for military takeovers on the continent.
He further alleged that Mahama’s association with such leaders may have influenced recent US decisions on tariffs against Ghana and other African countries.
Listowel Nana Kusi Poku, however, strongly rejected the former MP’s assertions and countered it by criticising former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of what he described as a decline in Ghana’s democratic standards during his tenure.

He accused the former administration of presiding over a period marked by electoral violence and the loss of lives.
“Even Akufo-Addo, whom you voted for under his democracy, eight people died during elections. Did you hear of anyone dying during Traoré’s coup?” he quizzed.
The former MP replied, “You sit here glorifying coups.”
The discussion grew increasingly tense when Maiga described Listowel as “a loose talker,” prompting a flurry of insults and heated exchanges between the two guests.
“You are sitting here accusing your president. How would you feel if someone twisted your words? Do you know the impact such statements could have on Ghana?” Listowel asked.
Read an excerpt of their exchange below:
Listowel: “…now that you’ve learned to say ‘loose talk,’ you’re even more of a loose talker than I am. When Akufo-Addo went to the UN, did you listen to what he said?
Ali: “Is Akufo-Addo your mate? Silly man. Is Akufo-Addo your mate?”
Listowel: Very useless guy. Fool! Even someone like you has been an MP before.
