An unidentified member of the Coalition of Unpaid Nurses and Midwives nearly broke down while recounting her struggles with unpaid salaries for over ten months, despite being formally recruited through official government processes.

In a video shared by EDHUB on Thursday, October 2, 2025, she said, “We have been working for 10 good months without salary. Personally, my rent expired on August 15, 2025, and I have not been able to pay. My landlord is always asking for his rent. I stay at Pantang and work at Korle Bu.”

Nurses and midwives suspend nationwide strike

Over 7,000 nurses and midwives staged a protest on Thursday, October 2, 2025, to demand the payment of salary arrears owed by the government.

The group, who have been working without pay despite formal recruitment through official government processes, explained that they graduated in 2020, completed their rotations, and waited at home for three years.

In July 2024, the Ministry of Health announced that it had secured financial clearance from the Ministry of Finance for their employment.
