War on corruption: ‘Akufo Addo has turned himself into law’ - Asiedu Nketia

General Secretary for the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia is accusing President Akufo Addo of ‘turning himself into a judge’ by clearing his appointees of wrongdoings.

According to the maverick chief scribe of the largest opposition party, the president has failed in the fight against corruption contrary to his numerous campaign pro0mises of dealing decisively with reported cases of corruption.

Asiedu Nketia was reacting to recent recent media reports that the Trade and Industry Ministry demanded an amount of $100,000 from corporate entities seeking direct audience with the president at an awards event organised in Accra.

Following the report, President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo cleared the Trades Minister of any wrongdoing in what has become the cash for a presidential seat scandal.

The president said the information available to him on the $100,000 reserved-seat scandal does not support the claim of wrongdoing.

But Johnson Asiedu Nketia disagrees with the president’s position saying, “the president is covering up corruption.”

“President Akufo Addo has turned himself into the law and exonerating corrupt officials of wrongdoings,” he said.

“Knowing how the president has touted himself as incorruptible, I was personally expecting him to have set up an independent body or even CHRAJ to investigate these corrupt allegations…but he has decided to take the law into his own hands,” Asiedu Nketia added.
