Wa Deaf School Gets Multiple Centre

Wa (Upper West), 3 Nov. A centre to teach educational and vocational opportunities for multiple handicapped children has been set up at the Wa school for the blind. The centre, the first of its kind, is financed by the Hilton/Perkins programme of the United States which has provided 500 million cedis for the management of the school for the next three years. Mr. Ken Dabuo, acting Upper West regional director of education, said this when he opened a two-week workshop for teachers of handicapped children at Wa. He said the centre is the outcome of an agreement between Hilton/Perkins and ministry of education in May this year. The school will train multiple disabled children especially those who are both blind and deaf. The participants were treated to topics such as definition of multiple impairment, effect of multiple impairment on learning and curriculum development.
