WEEKLY INSIGHT

"Konadu to take over from J.J.", reports the paper in a story on its front page which says Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, the First Lady could very easily become presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the year 2000. The Weekly Insight says sources at the NDC national headquarters indicate that Nana Konadu's candidature is being seriously considered and if it is approved, Vice-President J.E.A. Mills, will be invited to her running mate. According to the paper, the NDC is currently playing around with three options for winning the presidential race in the year 2000. The first is that the constitution will be amended to enable President Rawlings to run for a third term. The second option will have Nana Konadu stepping into the shoes of her husband as the NDC's presidential candidate and eventually becoming the president of Ghana. The third option, the paper says will have Vice-President Mills as presidential candidate with Nana Konadu, Alhaji Mahama Iddrisu or Goozie Tanoh as running mate. GRi
