The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has increased the number of its examination depots across the country from 169 to 176 for this year’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
According to graphiconline.com report on August 12, 2025, the move is to shorten the distance between depots and examination centres, to ensure that papers reach centres on time.
Head of the National Office of WAEC, Dr Rosemond Wilson, said that all depots have been fortified to protect the integrity of the examination papers.
She said senior council officials and security personnel inspected the facilities before the start of the exams to confirm their readiness.

“In compliance with the council’s security regulations, question papers have been printed and packed. They will be sent to the fortified depots in readiness for the examination,” she stated.
Dr Wilson explained that the question papers are dispatched in three or four batches during the examination period, with the frequency depending on the timetable.
The practical sessions of the 2025 WASSCE for School Candidates began on August 5 in Senior High and Technical schools across the country.
Written papers are scheduled to run from August 20 to September 19, 2025.
A total of 461,640 candidates 207,381 males and 254,259 females are expected to take the examination in 65 subjects at 701 centres nationwide.
Each candidate will write an average of eight subjects.
Dr Wilson reaffirmed WAEC’s commitment to conducting credible examinations and assured stakeholders that all necessary security measures have been put in place.
She added that supervisors and invigilators have received nationwide briefings on the rules, with special emphasis on vigilance to prevent examination malpractices.
