The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the arrest of four more individuals, including supervisors, for various forms of malpractice in the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Friday, September 12, 2025, the Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, John Kapi, said the number of arrests continues to rise despite previous convictions.

He revealed that the latest arrests involved four people caught impersonating candidates at a school in Assin Fosu, as well as invigilators and supervisors who were caught taking pictures of exam papers with their phones.

This brings the total number of arrests so far to 18.

“Unfortunately, we have arrested four more. Yesterday, for example, at Holy City SHS at Assin Fosu, we arrested four impersonators. We have also arrested some supervisors and invigilators… So really, the figures have gone up,” Mr Kapi said.

Meanwhile, as part of broader efforts to curb malpractice in both the WASSCE and the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), WAEC is considering the introduction of computer-based testing (CBT).
