The West Africa AIDS Foundation (WAAF), a non-governmental organisation on February 10-12, 2016 conducted HIV Testing and Counseling (HTC) at the 7th Africa Conference on Sexual Health and Rights held at the Accra International Conference Center.
“Realizing Demographic Divided in Africa: the Critical Importance of Adolescent and Youth Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights” was the theme chosen for the conference.
According to the Public Relations Officer, Miss Dorcas Aba Annan, the mission of the organisation is to help battle the spread of HIV/AIDS, TB as well as other communicable and non-communicable diseases and mitigate their effects on communities by providing care and support, developing and implementing pragmatic intervention programs.
“As part of our services to ensure that most people know their HIV status, we joined other Civil Society Organizations in the field of health to provide free HIV testing and counseling for more than 200 people who were present at the conference,” she added.
The conference also provided a platform where different organizations from African countries exhibited their great works in the field of adolescent sexual health and right education.
At the exhibition, West Africa AIDS Foundation showcased most of their products, shared information about the organisation to people, educated both old and young on some preventive measures, distributed condoms and also demonstrated to the adult on how to use the condom.
The 7th Africa conference on sexual health and rights brought together both leaders and young people from different African countries to discuss and address critical issues around young people’s sexual health and rights.
